The Alderman’s Tale - Don Mosey

Hardback - Very Good Condition

First Edition

£3.50

‘The Alderman’ is the title bestowed by his colleague, Brian Johnson, upon Don Mosey – one of the best-known voices on radio. Unfortunately, Brian cannot remember precisely why he arrived at a pseudonym that differs so much from the others on ‘Test Match Special’.

Mosey’s career, in fact is an entirely different story from that of the other members of the TMS team. The only grammar schoolboy in the party, he started working life on a weekly newspaper in his native Yorkshire, graduated to the Daily Express and the Daily Mail, before joining the BBC as an outside broadcast producer and, subsequently, commentator on cricket, rugby, golf and state and ceremonial occasions.

He has commentated on more than 100 Tests at home and abroad, and has travelled nearly half-a-million miles in pursuit of cricket, winter and summer, but the Alderman’s Tale covers much more than that. Here are stories of a childhood in the Yorkshire Dales, of meetings with murderer, of the many sporting idols who became his friends, and, of course, ‘Test Match Special’ where there is a wealth of fascinating tales to tell.

Don Mosey, author of the best-selling biographies of Boycott and Botham, now tells his own story and it is one that will appeal to cricket enthusiasts and others everywhere.
