This Rowney publication on Watercolour painting describes and demonstrates the processes used in the traditional method of painting with transparent washes of colour. It describes the fundamental processes and then shows how they are used to produce paintings of the landscape. It is intended to give reliable and practical instruction to beginners and to add to the progress of more advanced students. The step by step demonstrations are a feature of the book. They describe the colour mixtures used and illustrate how the painting starts with washes of colour all over the paper, and then adding and lifting colour and all the time progressing towards final definition. This way of painting with wet into wet processes is exciting and is the only way to achieve the true liquid properties of the medium.
