Laid in loosely is a Christmas card dated 31st November 1972, given to mark a retirement and a birthday. The rear endpapers carry several pages of contemporary pencil notes cross-referencing the novel against the real historical figures behind it.
Dustacket rubbed and creased along the top edge with small chips and nicks to the head of the front panel and spine crown, light soiling to the rear panel, unclipped and complete. Boards sound, spine ends lightly bumped, binding tight. Previous owner's signature in ink to front endpaper. Pencil notes confined to rear endpapers, no other marks in the text.
