The Triumph of Caesar

It is 46 BC and Rome is full of colour and spectacle for Caesar’s stupendous quadruple triumph. Having obliterated the opposition, Caesar is now dictator for life. In the celebrations, Vercingetorix the Gaul is due to be executed, as is Arsinoë, sister of Cleopatra – even as Cleopatra herself is making a state visit to the city to persuade Caesar to acknowledge their son as his heir. Marc Antony and Caesar are at odds; Cicero is making a fool of himself with a new teenage bride; and Caesar’s wife Calpurnia, influenced by an Etruscan soothsayer, is convinced of a plot on her husband’s life.

To uncover the truth, Calpurnia calls on Gordianus the Finder. As he searches the war-weary city Gordianus begins to doubt whether Caesar’s life is worth saving – but has his own reasons for tracking down the potential killer. Then his daughter joins in the investigation, and danger and intrigue once again draw the Finder into the vortex of history.
