Isabel Cameron wrote a popular series of short, warm-hearted books about Scottish parish life in the early to mid 20th century. "The Doctor" (mentioned on the cover) was her breakout title from 1931. A precentor is the person who leads the singing in a Scottish church, traditionally important in Free Chrch and Presbyterian traditions. A gentle, deotional, character-portrait kind of book in the kailyard tradition of sentimental Scottish writing.
