A year after Antonia and Hugo move to Australia with their young son, Tom, everything is going terribly well. The weather’s fantastic. they have a lovely house, they’re very popular – and then Hugo tells Antonia he’s gay and has a boyfriend…

Alone in her adopted home of Sydney, with no friends save for six-year-old Tom and a packet of chocolate biscuits, Ant soon finds that an attractive single woman is not nearly so welcome on the champagne social scene as the wife of a glamorous English anstocrat. It’s only the arrival of Hugo’s outrageous lavender-haired Uncle Percy that lifts Ant out of her depression and sends her to the gym.

There she meets the mysterious James and finds there is a dangerous dark side to the sunshine city – and more to love than playing happy families…
