A Year in the Drink
Martin Green spent a year doing what most people only dream about he ran his own pub.
But, as he relates in this extremely funny description of life behind the bar, being a landlord in the licensed trade can be a nightmarish experience, and not a question of hosting constant parties for delightful people. For a start, the customers at the Black Lion, with a few notable exceptions, were not particularly well-behaved. Then the place itself -a rain-sodden market town in Wales – didn’thelp.
Martin Green learned most of the tricks of the trade, plus a few of his own. His intoxicating account of his experience is almost enough to sober up any aspiring publican.
