Discovering animals
This book is an introduction to the everyday life of one important group of British animals — mammals. Many of our native mammals live in close community with us and yet we are quite unaware of their presence. We read about urban foxes and the plight of the rural badger, but what about hedgehogs, bats and mice and the whole range of 'small furry beasts' which live in our flower-beds or visit our rafters?
Tony Soper describes the habits and habitat of such animals and suggests ways of encouraging them to live even closer to us, such as by building a hedgehog box, or setting up a mammal table.
He explains how to observe animals without disturbing their homes or disrupting their lives, and so gain a better understanding of our wildlife.
