Guests ruin weddings all the time, although I will admit it is probably less usual for them to do it by killing the groom.

When Eve Marshall catches her reflection in a tinfoil display at her local supermarket, she sees someone old and fat, someone who looks just like a mother – which is exactly what she is. For Eve has never left her sleepy Home Counties town of Edenford; her children, Tom and Shirley, are her only contribution to the world.

Then, her life is completely changed. Her father dies.
