Tales from a Young Vet
Jo Hardy – animal lover, trainee vet. and star of BBC Two’s Young Vets – set out on her final year of training, determined to put her years of study into practice. From well-equipped surgeries to windswept hills and ramshackle barns, Jo had to be able to diagnose and treat any animal at any time of the day or night. It wasn’t as easy as James Herriot made it seem.
From the expected rectal examinations of cows to spinal surgery on a Great Dane, and from treating an eventing horse with a heart problem to inserting a contraceptive implant into a monkey, Jo faced a gruelling schedule of practical training, with animals big and small, friendly and those not at all happy.
This is the story of the friends she made, with two legs and four, and the lives she saved.
