To Love and be Wise

by Josephine Tey

To Love and Be Wise is a detective novel written by Josephine Tey.

Set in the 1950s England, the story follows the main character, Scotland Yard detective Alan Grant, as he investigates the murder of a famous movie star named Leslie Searle. Searle was known for his charm and good looks, but also for his tendency to attract trouble. Grant soon discovers that there were many people who had a motive to kill Searle, including his former lovers and business associates.

Throughout the investigation, Grant is faced with several challenges, including the unwillingness of witnesses to cooperate and a lack of concrete evidence. Despite these obstacles, Grant persists in his quest for the truth and eventually discovers that the murderer is someone he never suspected.

Tey's writing style is witty and engaging, and she masterfully balances humor with suspense to keep readers hooked until the very end. In addition to the intricate plot, Tey also explores themes such as fame, love, and the human psyche.
