Changes at Fairacre

Over the years Fairacre has seen many changes, some for the better, some less so. Families are smaller; the larger towns offer more opportunities – for work and education – and Miss Read’s beloved school is again threatened with closure and she may not only lose her livelihood, but also her home.

Fortunatelv her devoted friend Dolly Clare, her former colleague at Fairacre School, has made good provision for her. But Dolly is fragile and Miss Read will inherit

With autumn gales and wicked winter weather, life is very unsettled in Fairacre and it takes all the familiar neighbourhood faces – Bob and Alice Willet, Amy and James, even the vituperative Mrs Pringle – to ensure that Fairacre struggles on, despite all upheavals.
