Arriving at the great stone mansion of Moorhaven to begin her new life as a governess Cordelia Davis is made uneasily aware of the whispered rumours about the house and its owners – the tamily who mysteriously pushed back the sea, thereby unleashing a terrible curse that endured down the generations.

Despite encountering jealousy and hostility on all sides Cordelia seems to win through, defying the unknown evil that threatens her life and the new love she finds with Jonathan, the Master of Moorhaven.
